That's a wrap on my first d̶a̶y̶ night of field work proper! Glad to get going and start off nice and smoothly with most of the colonies coming along very nicely, though one was annoyingly (but quite cooly) taken over by a B. vestalis queen as in the video (scuse the french...)
Optimow 2023 was a success! In 2024, we want to understand more about citizen interventions & managing garden lawns for pollinators🐝🦋

Really fantastic discussion @ORFC on unlocking ecosystem harmony for managing pests, weeds, and diseases with @NFFNUK and great contributions from @hanslope, @Cereals_Ana, and Patrick from the @The_Barker_Boys. Best of the conference in a rather grand setting! #ORFC24#orfc
Absolutely delighted to be @ORFC for 2024! Can't wait to talk to farmers and others from a researcher's perspective and start to understand how to bridge the gap between the two industries, the integration of which has never been so important.

Exactly a month since starting my PhD @RHULBioSci, I have my first bumblebee colony! I will be using it to practice care, marking, and differentiating workers from males and young queens. Look at the size of the queen compared to the workers- polymorphism will never not be cool
I am absolutely delighted to announce that I've been offered the Butler PhD studentship @RHULBioSci with @ElliLeadbeater1 and @KorichevaLab! I'll be looking at limited resource foraging and cognition (amongst other things) in bees and cannot wait to get started!
Another field season in @WythamWoods draws to a close - still seeing high nestling survival, very little asynchrony in broods & caterpillar abundance still high. The traditional field team photograph - it would be impossible to do this work without this fantastic team!
Weird that the excuse weirdos use when they're hating on women's cricket for no reason is "the slower bowling speed".
Mate, you average 3.6 in a Sunday 3rds league against 47mph non spinners. One Crossy short ball would have you in tears
The greatest man I will ever know. End of. Also showed me I could be a Fordham without going into humanities, for which I will be forever grateful. Lie well grandpa.
It is with great sadness that we announce that Max Fordham - the acclaimed engineer, pioneer of sustainable building design and founder of our practice - passed away at his home yesterday morning, 4th January 2022.
