Just A Maker - Probably building something

🤝️:

People be like when you remind them they said they'll give you the money back on Friday...

"Why did you feel it was this Friday..."

"Because you said next Fri...."

"But if you take away the 'fri' is it not just any other day....."

👀🙄

Let AsAgreed handle the reminding so you don't have to hurt your head. USA, UK, Nigeria, Congo... it doesn't matter. As long as they have WhatsApp or email, they are getting that reminder. 🤝

Give it a go: https://t.co/hjMUrjEEgx

[King Ye @OfficialKingYe]

@druski “And hear the words”😭😭😭

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

Yeah, "A little less awkward" really is the core of the whole product! 🎯

On the trades page, the main CTA above the fold just takes them to the app. But now that I think about it, it would be way more beneficial to drop them straight into creating a service agreement.

Adding that to the backlog!

Day 18 (Evening Update)

This morning I realised Service Agreements needed a dedicated landing page. This evening, it's live: https://t.co/wpJruhktas 🚀

I am targeting tradespeople and independent contractors... whether they're a plumber, electrician, handyman, or weekend warrior tired of scope creep and awkward payment chasing.

Why should they care?

Because AsAgreed stops the "can you just add this on?" scope creep. It removes the need for an expensive CRM, making it incredibly easy to send initial quotes, agree on the final price, handle changes, track the deposit, add before/after pictures, and stay professional. Transparency from start to finish.

All from their phone 📱 and accessible on any device.

Day 19

Knocked out the second item on yesterday's backlog this morning before work: a guided onboarding flow for Service Agreements. ✅

I hate forced lock-in pop-ups, so I continued the "on-demand" onboarding. The guide lives right in the creation UI, and after the initial showing (automatic), users can open it when they are looking at services to learn how to use service agreements, whether setting work, prices, or tracking payments.

Check out the flow 👇🏿

@not_sacke Mainly the language and the exact pain points

The general page felt broad, and I think tradespeople need to see how it fits into their day-to-day, whether it's handling estimates, specifying material vs labour breakdowns, or showing before-and-after photos

Day 18

Shipped Service Agreements this weekend, but while sitting here planning the week this morning, I realised I missed two crucial things:

- A guided onboarding flow explicitly for Service Agreements (it's a heavier feature).

- A dedicated landing page for the people I will be reaching out to this week.

The weekly backlog just got a bit longer. Regardless, let's have a great week! 🚀👇🏿

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

You are absolutely right! 😅 That radio silence was productive

I ended up shipping the new "Service Agreements" flow (which features estimates, deliverables, and partial payments). I also went down a rabbit hole, giving my cloud/home servers much-needed TLC and compiling custom Linux kernels for my Surface Pro 11 (Best Linux Tablet 👀)

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

Day 16

I haven't posted an update since Day 12.

Honestly, building in public is hard. When you just need to get shit done, you tell yourself "I'll post it later," and suddenly three days have passed.

The cycle is real. 😅

#buildinpublic #indiehackers

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

@not_sacke Haha exactly, better to catch it now than after 100 cold DMs!

I'm going with one per audience. Broader messages just don't convert as well. First one for tradespeople is live: https://t.co/ekCipLlXj1

Next up: the onboarding flow + reaching out to warm leads! 🚀

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

@DevMuzzammil Ok, this is sick!! Thanks for sharing

One more thing for my todo list

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

Day 18

Started at 5 AM today, squeezed in a reflective long drive, took a nice mid-day break to visit the pumpkin patch with the kids, and then came back to finish the weekend sprint. 🎃💻

I am officially dropping a massive new feature to start the week strong... Service Agreements!!

Who's it for?!

Freelancers, independent contractors, and anyone doing extra client work who is tired of scope creep and awkward payment chasing.

What this includes:

- Estimates & Fixed Prices: Because not all jobs are a fixed amount. You can set the price and input what has already been paid.
- Deliverables: Agreements now have clear success criteria (e.g., "A secure, freshly painted gate"). After all, disappointment is just expectations not met.
- Multi-stage reviews: Versioned costs and deliverables before the client checks the box to accept.
- Media & Tracking: Full activity integration, notes, and support for uploading pictures directly to the agreement!

(Also snuck in some cheeky design refinements so everything feels incredibly polished. The payment status UI tracks outstanding vs. confirmed amounts beautifully).

Priorities for this week:
1️⃣ Dogfooding: Moving my external freelance projects onto the platform to manage my own remote clients.
2️⃣ Re-outreach: Following up with everyone who asked for this exact feature.
3️⃣ SEO & squashing minor bugs.
4️⃣ Goal: 5 new sign-ups.

🎯Let's go!

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

@LarsHorpestadX @Sam4Jef Great tip!

Thanks

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

FYI: You can now add agreements with partial payments on the platform! ✅

If you're already managing an ongoing agreement outside of https://t.co/lL2gQqVbVt, bring it over today. The form automatically calculates the remaining balance from your starting figures.

Stop manually chasing people. Offload that mental weight and let the system handle the reminding and chasing for you. Start here: https://t.co/1c5AyCiRQ6

Launch discount is still live!!

Day 17

Radio silence yesterday because the 9-to-6 turned into a 9-to-10! Went down a challenging but really interesting rabbit hole on a project and lost track of time.

Back to the AsAgreed grind today.

#buildinpublic

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

https://t.co/1c5AyCjpFE product updates:

- Improved the claim flow so it's much cleaner and easier to attach agreements to your account.

- Up next: You will soon be able to add agreements that already have partial payments made towards them.

No more forcing users to start from zero!

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

Also fixed a fun bug today: A user reported they couldn't create an agreement.

After some digging, I found the root cause... The UI was blocking input while waiting to fetch the currency/country flags, which was hanging.

Fix: The form now loads instantly with standard objects, and the flag images populate dynamically and async!

Unsurprisingly, a way smoother UX!!! 😅

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

Hahaha, you're absolutely right if it's just about getting an update out there.

Though, one reason why I like the daily updates or at least the thought of them (not sure if anyone else is like this) is because it also acts as a journal for me. I believe the main reason for even participating in the #buildinpublic community is to have the opportunity to learn from others here who have already been through it. I can learn from their experiences rather than having to go through the pain myself.

What's the saying? "The smart learn from their mistakes, the wise learn from the mistakes of others," or something like that..

To wrap things up, I think there's definitely some benefit to both: doing the daily updates, and taking a period to stay "busy making the thing." 😅

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

Product updates:

- Improved claim flow is ready to go live.

- Planning out the new "Service Agreement" feature based directly on pain points from user interviews.

- Strategy shift: Strongly considering killing the "one-off agreement" purchase. Right now, it causes more confusion than it's worth.

[Leon S. @leonTheEighth]

But progress was still made on AsAgreed.

The thing I am most proud of... I finally squashed an issue that was absolutely spamming my logs, making it impossible to spot genuine issues with all the false positives.

Look at that beautiful drop-off in the red bars.
