You're right! I forgot to add that I learned from Disney's master illustrators, I even follow one of them on YouTube. He's drawn characters like in The Lion King and Brother Bear. He uses references for his work, so what are we even talking about now? xD Are they being so puritanical? Do you have to be an exaggerated prodigy with superpowers to create a work without references?๐Da Vinci would be happy to use 3D models for his works and not lifeless bodies to study anatomy haha
I've been seeing a lot of posts about whether or not to trace 3D models, and if it's bad or not. I've honestly used them a lot, and sometimes I don't need them, but many artists need references because we have the ability to reproduce what we see on paper, or in this case, digitally. But sometimes our brain plays tricks on us and distorts our vision, and we need that guide (a physical model or 3D model) to get back to what we wanted to achieve. So I see it more as a competition of who has a better photographic memory and who doesn't, to feel superior. At least my photographic memory fails me sometimes, haha, and I need a guide. In this timelapse, I did everything without a reference, just the image of the sheep, and I notice a lot of mistakes, although it's very useful for practicing and improving. It's not bad to use 3D models, and it's not bad not to use them either. As a veteran illustrator of 40 years, and someone who's been drawing for as long as I can remember, just do what you want with your art. Just respect the work of others. Use references, but don't copy or steal art from those who have spent years searching for their own style. Also, find it yourself, and your art will be beautiful. I'm still searching for mine, and the journey has been fun.
LOOOOOOOOK AT THE MOST STUNNING ART MY WAIFY GOT ME OF OUR ALT OC'S TOGETHER!
