Bellville Police Reject R5,000 Bribe Offer and Arrest Nigerian Drug Suspect After Finding 148g Crystal Meth, 140 Mandrax Tablets and More Drugs

Police attached to Operation Lockdown 3 arrested a 54-year-old Nigerian national in Bellville on Tuesday, 17 August 2026, for alleged possession of drugs and bribery. The arrest followed information received by police about drugs at a premises in Parksig, Bellville.

During a search of the premises, police found 148.3 grams of crystal meth, 31 small packets containing crystal meth and 140 Mandrax tablets. Officers also recovered a plastic packet containing Mandrax powder and uncut crystal meth during the operation.

Police said that while members were executing the arrest, the suspect allegedly offered them R5,000 in cash in exchange for his release. The suspect also faces a charge under the Immigration Act following his arrest.

The 54-year-old suspect remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once he has been formally charged. The case includes allegations relating to drug possession, bribery and an offence under the Immigration Act.
