Having an "Approved book" list is honestly a rather concerning turn of events. Books are there to explore the world, other viewpoints, and history. DeSantis intentionally limiting that seems to oppose every aspect of freedom of thought, something the right claims to decry.

The Nordic model, demonstrated by countries with some of the highest quality of living and happiness indices of any countries in the world, is also left.

@PatDonahoeArmy What's kind of funny about this is that these are the exact tanks that weapons being sent to Ukraine were designed to destroy. These weapons were designed with Russia in mind during the cold war, so they target the weaknesses of these particular tanks. Turns out, very effective.

In the Tyre Nichols video the cops are all yelling different orders as he tries to comply. It would be confusing and jarring for anyone, he did seem to honestly want to comply but anyone who's been under serious pressure knows how hard it is to think clearly under that pressure.

Know of, understand it, experienced it. All are different, with similar meanings.

I wouldn't dare suggest my knowledge of what's going on is anywhere near actual experience, that would be absurdly dismissive to those who are there.

Is there a name for this sort of "Being Informed Paradox" wherein ignorance is bliss, but once you are no longer ignorant you would never want to go back to being ignorant?

Like... it's so much easier to be happy with a simple world view, but I've already opened Pandora's box.

@10Luno It's this same reason that make people prefer lies over truth.

The world is chaotic and unfair, but someone is willing to sell you comforting lies and tell you that "Immigrants are evil!" so you can mentally justify what's happening to them. Dehumanize them. It's just easier.

@10Luno But we can apply this to every level, it's easier to ignore human rights issues locally and abroad as long as we have the benefit of not being targeted. But as humans we have an obligation to know and do our best to help and prevent.

But not knowing makes life easier for us.
