A1993 would increase pay for election inspectors and coordinators. Now more than ever, at this critical moment for our democracy, we must continue providing support to our local boards of elections who serve at the frontlines of our democracy.
As we near the end of the legislative session, our coalition urges @NYSA_Majority@JGPretlow to support and pass two election administration bills pending in the Ways & Means Committee without delay: A1228 (Assemblymember Seawright) and A1993 (Assemblymember Colton).
These two bills will ensure we train & compensate our election workers who work tirelessly year round to deliver key services to New York voters. A1228 will require commissioners to complete a uniform training curriculum within 6 months of their appointment.
Let NY Vote Advocacy Day in Albany! As part of our coalition efforts, we met w/ lawmakers or staff to advocate for voting rights & election admin. policies including consolidating municipal elections with even-year elections to increase turn-out and address voter fatigue in NY.
I was so proud to stand with @LetNYvote this afternoon to call for expanded voter accessibility, education, & integrity in our elections. Our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard. I look forward to addressing these issues + more in our committee & on the Senate floor.
The bills (1) allow local boards to employ poll clerks to work split shifts (S1842), (2) increase pay for election inspectors & poll clerks in NYC (S559), & (3) restructure & professionalize NYC Board of Elections (S699). We urge Senate & Assembly to promptly pass these bills.
Earlier today, the Senate Elections Committee reported key bills that would improve election administration in NY. We applaud the Committee for moving these bills, marking an important step for our state democracy to ensure every eligible voter receives quality voter service.
Fortunately, Elections Chairs @TheRealLatriceW and @SenatorMyrie have a bill called the Democracy During Detention Act to address this injustice.
Are your state reps co-sponsors? If not, ask them to sign on ASAP and help fix this.
Some officials like the bipartisan commissioners in Ulster have taken the lead, ensuring eligible detained citizens can vote, without waiting for Albany.
But this varies widely, and most counties reported to @LWVNYS they have no formal program.

NYSBOE: “Many County Boards of Elections will actually send bipartisan teams to the jails with voter registration and/or ballot request forms to assist in the process”
Good! But these voters need to be protected. Without a law, they’re vulnerable.
