it's interesting… most of us can name every starter on our team by Sunday afternoon.
but could we name the books of the Bible in order?
Psalm 119:11 says "Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You."
what's one verse you know by heart?
the election is two days out and the timeline is already loud…
but Paul told us what comes first.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 says prayers be made "for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."
have you prayed for them?
Bills fans sit in the cold for four quarters and never think twice
so it's interesting how a little rain keeps some of us home from worship
Romans 12:11 says "not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord"
what would that kind of zeal look like for us?
worship is over and the sermon is still on my mind
but I hope none of us just took the preacher's word for it
Acts 17:11 says they "searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so."
when did you last check a sermon against the Bible?
Liverpool and Arsenal fans don't switch clubs when the match gets hard
and I think we ought to be at least that loyal to Christ
Luke 9:62 says "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
what tempts you to look back?
folks are debating whether Noah's ark was real…
but I think the better question is what it pictured
1 Peter 3:20-21 says eight souls "were saved through water" and "There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism"
so why do so many say baptism has nothing to do with it?
a lot of people say faith is a private thing…
and it is personal
but it was never meant to stay quiet
Romans 10:10 says "with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
believe, repent, confess, be baptized
have you ever said it out loud?
NFL Sunday is trending and folks are planning the day around kickoff…
and I like football as much as anybody
but I think we ought to plan it around the Lord first
Matthew 6:33 says "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness"
what does your Sunday look like?
heading to worship this morning…
and we'll sing without instruments
not because we don't love music
but Ephesians 5:19 says "singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord"
the heart is the instrument God asked for
ever wondered why we sing a cappella?
25 days till Thanksgiving and it's already trending…
but God never gave us just one day for it
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
so what are you thankful for this morning?
Good Sunday…
somebody asked me once who's over our congregation.
no headquarters… just elders in that local church, with Christ as the head.
1 Peter 5:2 says "Shepherd the flock of God which is among you."
among you.
does your church follow that pattern?
for a lot of folks Sunday Funday means brunch and drinks…
but Proverbs 20:1 says "Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise."
I think we ought to leave it alone.
does a Christian really lose anything by saying no?
Christmas is already trending on November 1st…
it's interesting how early we start thinking about gifts.
Romans 6:23 says "the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
that's one gift we can't afford to leave unopened.
have you received it on His terms?
a lot of apologies going around this morning…
but I think being sorry isn't the same as repenting.
2 Corinthians 7:10 says "godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted."
sorrow ought to lead somewhere.
where has yours led you?
"the Spirit told me" … I hear that a lot.
but Ephesians 6:17 calls the word of God "the sword of the Spirit."
so I think the Spirit still speaks … through what He already wrote.
Where do you open your Bible to hear Him?
watching college football this weekend … no player gets to rewrite the playbook in the middle of the game.
and we ought to treat the Bible the same way.
2 Timothy 3:17 says Scripture makes us "complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Is it enough for you?
a lot of folks are thankful just to see another morning … and that's right.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says "They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness."
it's interesting … His mercies didn't run out overnight.
What's one thing you're thankful for today?
Blessed Sunday, friends.
I think the best part of the Lord's day is that we don't spend it alone.
Hebrews 10:25 says "not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some …"
so where will you be worshiping this morning?
it's Sunday… the first day of the week
Acts 20:7 says, "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread…"
the early church took the Lord's Supper every first day
I think we ought to do what they did
where will you worship today?
a lot of people were talking about "faith alone" this weekend
but the only verse that says "faith only" is James 2:24, and it says, "You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only."
saving faith obeys
how do you read that verse?
