He also responded to Carter Gregory’s emotional reflection on coming out as gay by emphasizing that no one should ever have to hide who they truly are.

mgk said, "And I grew up in a house where my dad constantly called me a f- for dressing the way I did. When I was 1 years old, my mom got me a punching bag, but it was pink, and he was like, 'Why would you get our son that? You want him to be a f-?' She got me a kitchen set, and he said, 'Why would you get him that? You want our son to be a f-?' I'm straight, but I grew up and I was always like, 'I'll wear whatever I wanna wear, I'm expressing myself.' I'll put a tie over my T-shirt cause I saw Avril Lavigne doing it. I saw Sum 41 doing it. And I'll come downstairs, and my dad would be like, 'Get the f- back in your room and change.' It helped me fight the system even more cause I was like, 'I don't wanna f- turn out like you. You're miserable, you're drunk as f- every day, you're on - everyday, you f- don't do sh-, you don't have a job. I got dreams, and you wanna follow a structure? Your structure can't fit me, I'm too big for that.' It's so funny—if the world would ease up on me, if the internet eased up on me, I would probably shut the f- up and go away. I would give them exactly what they want if they just supported me, I would go away. But the fact that they just keep giving me fuel—they don't realize I was built off this. I was built in a house of hate."

Carter Gregory asked mgk, "How did you push through that at a young age like that?"

mgk responded, "Because I love dreams, bro. I love dreaming, and I loved what I could become. I never loved what I was, but I loved what I could become, so it always gave me a goal. Who stops running before they get to the finish line? The finish line is all the way there, I don't know anyone that just runs and stops. But every time the goal comes close, I'm like pushing further away."

Carter Gregory said, "I'm getting teary eyed right now, bro. Look at this, what the f-. The f- thing really, like, sh- was tough. I tried to hide it so hard for so long, and I would look at myself in the mirror and be like, 'You are what they're calling you, and one day you're gonna have to come out and be real with yourself and be honest with yourself.' But I couldn't do it for so long, bro. And hearing you be like, you dealt with that and you still would rock the tie around your neck over a T-shirt and still be so authentically you at a young age... I wish I had that. I wish I had a friend like you at a young age to tell me, 'Who gives a f---, be yourself and do your thing.'"

mgk said, "I don't care what sexuality you are. I care about the heart, I care about the soul, dude. The aura knows no orientation. You're giving the next version of you that right now.
