I placed an order and I was never directed to an order confirmation page. Neither did I receive a confirmation email, so I don't have an order number, but my card was still charged. The email on the order was [email protected]. This is very frustrating. @NetWorldSports

You walked into the club that night with one mission: to go home with the hottest guy in the bar and he just happened to be it.
You’re freshly out of a toxic situationship, the one that pulled the “I-see-a-future-with-you-but-I’m-not-ready-for-commitment-right-now” type shit, so you told him to go fuck himself, you know your worth, and that’s the handsome doctor with the Akso hospital lanyard you’d been knocking back shots all night to build up the courage to talk to.
But even then, Tara has to give you a hard shove in his direction when you decide to abort mission last minute, causing you to stumble into his back with a smooth:
“H—Hey there.”
At first, he doesn’t respond. Just looks over his broad shoulder before he turns to face you, surprised by the collision despite how packed the nightclub had become, his colleagues on either side of him competing for the single bartender’s attention.
You look at his own drink, almost empty too. Clear liquid, vodka or tequila, maybe? It’s hard to tell, so you have to check.
“So, um…I was wondering if I could buy you a refill? What are you drinking?”
He drags his gaze away from your face, glances down at the hand resting on the counter. Tilts the glass in his palm slightly, ice clinking faintly against the sides.
“Just water,” he replies.
“Water?” you repeat, a little louder than you meant to, and he inclines his head. Seems surprised by your reaction despite him being the odd one ordering water at a bar on a Thursday night, but, oh well, at least he isn’t rejecting your offer.
You turn up a bright smile.
“You’re a cheap date.”
That earns you a look, dark brows raising just a fraction, enough to say he’s charmed enough to play along.
“Since when was this a date?”
He’s teasing you, but it certainly felt like it when you pushed past the initial awkwardness and found out you both grew up in Bloomshore, liked video games and cakes and hikes.
You’re lost in easy conversation by the time Tara and his colleagues leave you to it, laughing as they told you: “it was about time Dr Zayne started acting his own age!” and you took that as a challenge, tugged his arm and played cute until he followed you into the dance floor, telling him that you didn’t believe him when he said that he couldn’t dance after he expertly steadies you by the waist after a failed pirouette and gently tells you it’s time to order a taxi home.
You think you’ve sealed the deal until he’s tucking you into your bed, securing your duvet under your chin and you blink up at him blearily, head absolutely spinning.
“Wait. You’re not getting in with me?”
His smile down at you is tender, even the way he shakes his head is soft and in spite of your inebriated state, it makes your heart skip a beat.
“You’re drunk.”
“You’re sexy.”
He breathes a laugh, leans down to spread a large hand in front of your face.
“How many fingers am I holding up?”
You sit on your elbows a bit and squint:
“…Seven?”
“Alright, it’s time for bed.”
Zayne starts to pull away but before he can, you reach out and catch his tie, tugging it hard enough to bring his face down to yours.
The kiss you aim for isn’t nearly as smooth or irresistibly seductive as you imagined. It’s clumsy, off-centre, lands on his upper lip and right over the faint scar near the curve of his cupid’s bow.
You feel him freeze, his sharp inhale against his cheek. Holds himself perfectly still until, just barely, you feel the slightest pressure of him kissing you back, the faint taste of alcohol on your lips just enough to intoxicate.
But when you feel him teetering on the edge of giving in, abruptly, he pulls away. He looks cross with himself almost, and you misread his conflicted expression for something like regret.
“Sorry, I thought you…”
The words tail off weakly, humiliation rising to your cheeks and he notices this, gently takes your wrist, plays a thumb across your knuckles until you release your hold on his tie.
“That’s enough,” he says, softer now. “You need to sleep. I have work in the morning, but I’ll check up on you after.”
You nod and the motion makes your vision double up, so you admit he is probably right.
“Mmm, okay.”
He straightens up and takes a step back but before he can, your fingers catch lightly on the corner of his sleeve. It’s hardly enough to stop him, but he pauses all the same.
“Hey, um…Dr Zayne? I had a really shitty day today,” you tell him, voice shy and small. “Thanks for making it a little better.”
You wake the next day, a glass of water and a card of painkillers set neatly on your bedside table and beside them, to your eternal surprise, were his contact details, written in clean handwriting on one of your Cheerful Tomato post-it notes.
Giddy, you feel around your mattress for your phone to save his number, and that’s when you finally see the time: just under thirty minutes until your first class of the semester, Evol in Medicine Applications: Basic First Aid in Field Conditions, a mandatory module for all Deepspace Hunter trainees that accounted for about 40% of your final grade.
Campus is a twenty-five minute walk away, but by some miracle, you only end up five minutes late, yesterday’s makeup still smudged beneath your eyes as you hurry into the building.
You’re hoping to slip into the lecture hall unnoticed and slide into a seat in the back row, but unfortunately, the auditorium door was heavy and unnecessarily loud when it slammed shut behind you.
What feels like a hundred sets of eyes turned to look at you, but the only ones you seem to lock in on are a hazel-green, wide-eyed behind a set of silver-rimmed glasses and standing at the front of the class.
It’s unmistakable.
Oh fuck, you think. That’s definitely him.
