Official Synopsis

Before the sun rises over the village, two boys are already on the road.

Closer follows a single morning in the lives of two Indonesian high school students navigating a route that no one who lives there would call a road — red clay hills, mud traps, steep descents, and a trail that swallows clean uniforms whole. Their only way through is a Honda CRF150L and each other.

What begins as routine becomes something harder to name. There is the mud. The laughter that comes from nowhere when things go wrong. The hand that reaches down without being asked. The shoulder that becomes a pillow at the side of the trail. The hand-clasp at the school gate that holds a beat longer than it needs to.

The film does not explain what they are to each other. It doesn't need to. Some things are communicated in weight — the weight of someone leaning on you, the weight of a grip that doesn't let go, the weight of silence between two people who have already said everything without speaking.

Closer is a back-to-school story about the long way there. About the roads that test you and the people who make the testing bearable. About what it means to show up — muddy, late, and grinning — because you went through it together.

The road never made it easy. Neither did they. Every single day.
