Journalist Suways Gacayte is expected to appear before the First Instance Court in Garowe tomorrow after spending 10 days in detention at Garowe Central Prison. According to the Puntland Media Association, her arrest was carried out unlawfully.
However, on 4 July, the court issued an order retroactively legalizing her detention and instructed the prosecution and police to prepare the charges against her within seven days—a deadline that expired yesterday.
The key question now is whether Suways Gacayte will receive a fair trial and justice from Puntland’s judicial system?

For two consecutive nights, 35 Somali citizens have been stranded and humiliated at #Cairo International Airport in #Egypt.
Despite travelling legally with valid visas, they were reportedly subjected to inhumane treatment, had their passports confiscated, and were denied both entry and the right to return home.
The degrading treatment Somali travellers face at the hands of Egyptian authorities is unacceptable.
No Somali citizen deserves such humiliation.
Somalia & Egypt are supposedly allies. This isn’t acceptable.

President HSM's legacy is one of mediocrity, crude-nepotism, cabal culture, unprincipled-narcissistic individual, spreading division, inciting and entrenching clan loyalty instead of patriotism, unity and consensus. Today Somalia is more divided.
History will not be kind to him.
IMS recently convened media partners from Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia, along with independent media from the Western Balkans, for a peer-to-peer knowledge exchange on information integrity. The charette focused on how newsrooms can assess and respond to information threats.
CPH:DOX presented two powerful documentaries highlighting Afghan women’s stories. The Secret Reading Club of Kabul won the NORDIC:DOX Award, while the IMS-supported documentary film, A Fox Under a Pink Moon, previously won the main prize at IDFA, was also screened at CPH:DOX.
