NIGERIA, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS.
The rate of university dropouts in this country could SKYROCKET if something isn’t done urgently.
NELFUND is a good initiative.
But what happens when the financial burden simply moves somewhere else?
Imagine a struggling mother with TWO children in university.
She is asked to pay ₦306,000 PER CHILD for accommodation in a federal university fgs.
That’s ₦612,000 for TWO CHILDREN.
For accommodation alone.
No food.
No transportation.
No textbooks.
No other expenses.
And if those children doesn’t qualify for NELFUND or their expenses aren’t fully covered?
How are they supposed to survive?
We keep telling Nigerian youths to “get educated.”
But how?
How do you expect a low-income family to keep two or three children in university when the cost of simply EXISTING as a student is becoming this expensive?
And the most painful part?
These are not necessarily students who lack the intelligence.
Some of them are brilliant students who may become doctors, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, lecturers and leaders.
But financial pressure can force them out of school.
Imagine losing an entire generation of brilliant minds simply because their parents couldn’t afford the cost of keeping them in university.
That should scare everyone.
NELFUND was introduced to make higher education more accessible.
So we need to ask a serious question:
Are we actually reducing the cost of education, or are students simply being hit with higher costs elsewhere?
The government needs to look into these accommodation charges and the overall cost of living for students.
Because if this continues unchecked, we won’t just have an education problem.
WE WILL HAVE A FUTURE-GENERATION PROBLEM. 🇳🇬
How is a Nigerian student supposed to survive this?
How is a Nigerian parent supposed to afford this?
And most importantly…
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CHILD WHO HAS THE BRAIN BUT NOT THE MONEY?
Those players and clubs Manchester City bought players from and lied about their prices should also be punished
They also aided the criminal act.
I’m sure those players and clubs know they cost more than 51M
I rather see Manchester City striped off their trophies than see them relegate
Or even a transfer ban.
Because why would I be watching a title Race between Arsenal and Chelsea
Or Liverpool and Manchester United?
Consider the quality of the league before relegating them.
