A better strategy would be to strengthen trust (and values) in society as much as possible and to implement verification at critical hinges as an additional safety layer. However, it was a huge mistake by the neo-liberalism to replace values with self-interest.

I think that’s a very important question to discuss. Trust in a society is always both a precondition and a point of failure. I think that trust in society - like values overall - can and should never be completely replaced by “verification”.
