X just reminded me that it’s my anniversary on this app!
The best part of being on here has easily been connecting with the incredible #WritingCommunity. Thank you all for reading, cheering on the wins and making the submission grinder a lot more fun.

What happens when you can't taste the thrill anymore?
My newest micro piece, "The Slippery Slope of a Desensitized Palate," just dropped on @101Words. If you have a quick minute to spare, I’d love for you to give it a read:

Is there any motivation as powerful as the "Spite Submission"?
Instead of letting an unwanted, self-centered email ruin my afternoon, I channeled my pure, unadulterated rage into formatting and submitting a new short story.

Woke up to fantastic news: "Terminal Lucidity" grabbed an Honorable Mention in the @writersweekly Spring 2026 24-Hour Short Story Contest!
Thrilled this one landed with the judges. Congrats to all the winners!

New month, new submission.
Sent another story out into the wild. Now begins the glamorous tradition of aggressively refreshing my inbox and trying to forget I submitted anything at all. Fingers crossed!

Instead of writing, I spent ten minutes watching a flock of birds shelter from the rain in a weeping willow tree.
Given my recent publication, I hope they weren't crows plotting a murder.
Sometimes you have to step away to appreciate a quiet moment.

My micro-fiction didn’t snag Story of the Week at @50WordStories, but it’s a lot easier to lose to such a good story.
The winner was a brilliant piece by @itsjrwalsh about vampires burning in the sun out of sheer boredom with immortality. Go check it out.

When it rains, it pours!
Fresh off yesterday’s publication, I just learned another of my stories will be published in June. This kind of momentum feels great!
I'll share the link when it drops, but today, I’m just enjoying the win!

Heading in for surgery today. If this were one of my stories, the plot would be a mix of medical procedural, locked-room mystery and light body horror.
I'm just hoping the doctors stick to a "cozy" genre with a happy ending. Wish me luck!

@Justin_O_Rose Tempting, but since I'm down here for a conference, I have a feeling launching into "Leave Her, Johnny" in the middle of a ballroom full of business suits might get my badge permanently revoked. Enjoy the ambiance for both of us!
A 24-hour flash fiction contest is a sprint on a normal day. Writing from a conference hotel room between "real world" job duties makes it feel like a marathon!
Entry is officially in! Hoping I can start at least a new Honorable Mention streak.

@writersweekly Can’t wait to see the prompt! I’m officially entering my Redemption Arc era and looking to start a new streak.
Let the sleep deprivation and frantic typing begin!
Finally looking to replace my dying computer and tablet.
Logically, I know shiny new toys won't make me a better writer. But, there's that whispering: "Buy them...and write your masterpiece."
Anyone else hear that?

The body that God inhabits dies at the end of the story. It is a masterclass in brevity and emotional weight. If you were sitting in a classroom around 1980-1985 staring at an HBJ or Houghton Mifflin reader, this might ring a bell. Has anyone else read this?
Writers, I need your help finding a piece of short fiction that has haunted me for 40 years. It was in a 3rd/4th/5th-grade reading textbook in the early 80s. I’ve searched everywhere, and there is zero digital footprint. Here is the plot... 🧵👇
God comes to earth in the body of a homeless boy in an inner city. He befriends another boy who explains how the city works. The most vivid detail: they pass a florist. God is taken aback by how expensive the flowers are and remarks, “I thought I made enough for everybody.”
Me: "This is definitely my weakest flash fiction yet."
My Wife: "Are you kidding? It's the best one!"
The @writersweekly Judges: "We are going to have to agree with the author on this one."
The streak may be broken, but I write on!

@JessSFrankel And the award for "least necessary apology" goes to...
Seriously, zero apologies allowed for this! Just take care of yourself and get well soon. Rooting for you.
