It genuinely leaves me asking what was the point of introducing all these new characters if they’re only bringing in The Fantastic 4 and the Thunderbolts.
Unless they’re keeping it a secret, where is Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, Jean, She-Hulk, Strange, Agatha, Wanda, ironheart…

So it’s resorting to Sony using creators and news outlets to convince people it’s inevitable and the best thing going forward. Nah, I don’t care. Sony has shattered their trust and with the player base and are getting others to try and patch up the damage.

I don’t use this often but I find it very fitting if this all happens.

They tell us they are scrapping physicals, decide to ignore everyone, call physical buyers a minority and call our outrage a phase, will cheat players with expensive prices on digital only.

SONY RAN OUT OF PEOPLE TO IGNORE

twelve days since sony announced the end of physical discs. twelve days of silence toward players. meanwhile, in courtrooms and regulators' offices:

- Brazil: a federal deputy is demanding an official investigation, and congress is weighing a digital ownership bill
- Netherlands: a consumer group suing for $457 million on behalf of 1.7 million players has now escalated its case over the disc decision
- UK: a £2 billion claim over playstation store pricing has already been argued in court. closing arguments are done - a ruling is expected within months
- Mexico: two federal lawmakers are preparing an antitrust complaint against sony as the sole seller and sole price-setter on its platform

and here's the twist. for years, sony's answer in these cases was simple: there's competition, you can always buy the disc.

on july 1, sony deleted its own alibi.

the petition got silence. the cancellations got coupons. this one comes with a court date.

They have sorely misjudged their fans. Watch them plummet come 2028. The only reason I stuck with Sony was for the physical aspect.

More reports why Sony is trying to end physical discs:

- They want to cut out the middle man, to make more profit per sale (like remove walmart cuts etc)
- Sony thinks the fanbase will not switch platforms, they can do what they please without losing fans
- They are convinced by ignoring this issue, they fans will just accept the changes and convert to 100% digital with time.
- Sony thinks they are "too big to have commination with fans". Talking to fans has no margin benefit, so they refuse to address fans and will keep doing so

I have lost all trust and goodwill with PlayStation, no words what is happening right now. Horrible company

If this is true, that reads as they are literally kicking gamers like me to the curb and frankly I’m disgusted by it.
I’ve been with PlayStation from Day One, my first ever home console being the PS1. Looks like my last is definitely going to be the PS5.

✅Sony considers their digital player base is large enough to do without those who continue wanting physical discs

✅They won’t change their retail distribution

✅Stores sell empty boxes with only download code

✅They’re convinced that over time, players will accept a 100% digital gaming future

✅They don’t think it’s necessary to maintain contact with fans

✅They trust the strength of their brand and the loyalty of their community, and imagine they will continue to support their digital games

Regarding profitability:

✅When Sony sells a first party physical game to a retailer, the retailer gets around ~30% of the sale price

✅Digital helps them keep 100% of it

✅They expect to significantly increase their profit margins

This is absolutely disgraceful to read if true. I’m genuinely repulsed by Sony💿

In the span of a few weeks I went from losing interest in Gears E-Day because they pulled it from its PS release. Cancelled my preorder for GTA 6 because it’s just a digital code and lost any interest in any future PS project because they are single handedly killing my hobby.

People don’t realize how much this could change the gaming market.

When physical games disappear, it doesn’t just affect collectors. It affects the entire ecosystem around gaming.

Retro game stores? Many of them survive because people still buy, sell, and trade physical games. As physical media declines, some of those stores will have a much harder time staying open.

Collector’s Editions? If everything becomes digital, what’s the incentive? Are people really going to spend $200+ for a few digital cosmetics and a downloadable license? A huge part of what made those editions special was owning something tangible.

And don’t think retro prices won’t be affected. As fewer physical games are produced, the older ones become even more desirable. Supply goes down, demand goes up, and prices climb even higher.

This isn’t just about preferring discs over downloads. It’s about ownership, preservation, accessibility, local game stores, collectors, and the future of gaming as a whole.

There’s so much more at stake than people realize, and I don’t think the long term impact is good. #supportphysicalmedia

PlayStation stepping in and saying no more physical and taking away the PlayStation 3 and vita store has left a real sour taste in my mouth.

Not only are you taking away my collection hobby. But you are also taking away the few digital ps3 and vita games had.
