Building a stronger, more secure Canada — while creating high-paying jobs, leveraging our defence industries, and maximising benefits for Canadian workers and businesses.
Right now, only 1 of Canada’s submarines is seaworthy.
With the longest coastline in the world, Canada’s security depends on our ability to defend our waters. It’s time to build a new fleet.
Canada is designating German manufacturer TKMS as the preferred supplier for our next fleet of submarines.
This will be the largest defence procurement in our nation’s history and it will have enormous, lasting benefits for Canadian industries and workers. Together with our German and Norwegian Allies, we will build at speed and scale to expand our strategic capabilities and defend our sovereignty.
We will build this fleet to build Canada strong.
Just over a year ago, our new Liberal government's tax cut for the middle class came into effect — putting more money directly into the pockets of 22 million hard-working Canadians.
Red Seal trades are at the forefront of building Canada strong.
That is why the federal government is making a $6 billion investment to help recruit, train and hire up to 100,000 skilled trades workers to lead the charge.
On July 6, 2013, the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster claimed the lives of 47 people and left much of the town destroyed and in grief. It was the deadliest rail disaster in Canada since Confederation.
Thirteen years on, we remember those who died, stand with those who lost their loved ones, and continue our work to make our railways safer, and ensure that a tragedy such as this never happens again.
