Dear Alex Karaban,
Thank You for an incredible four-year career.
You are truly one of the great winners and ambassadors in the history of college basketball.
Walk Proud.
Today.
Tomorrow.
And Forever.
Sincerely,
America
Just so we’re all clear on what is happening here:
Kilmer Abrego Garcia has lived in the US for 14 years without incident.
He married a US citizen, is a father to 3 US citizens, brother to a US citizen, and is a legal permanent resident. He achieved that status by demonstrating to a US court in 2009 that he was more likely than not to face prosecution if he was returned to his country of origin.
He is not a criminal, he is not a terrorist, he is not a gang member. In fact his family had a successful business in El Salvador that made them a target for the local gang, which tried to recruit him at 12 years old, all the way until he fled the country at 16, despite his family moving around and closing their successful business to try and prevent their son’s recruitment.
Abrego Garcia is innocent. The fascist regime itself admits that his deportation—without due process—was an “administrative error.” SCOTUS issued an impossibly rare—especially for a high-profile case—9-0 decision ordering the Trump admin to return Abrego Garcia. Indeed, every day in CECOT makes him a sitting duck for the gang that was targeting him during his teenage years.
Trump has ignored SCOTUS. They had Bukele, the El Salvadoran fascist dictator, in the White House yesterday. Rather than do the tough negotiating Trump is always pounding his chest about to get Bukele to return Abrego Garcia, Trump shrugged and sat idly by while Bukele lied, claiming he couldn’t return Abrego Garcia because it would be the equivalent of smuggling a terrorist into the US…
Once again, there’s no evidence he is a terrorist. But no one…not a single admin member, not a single media member, and certainly not Trump himself, corrected Bukele. All Trump had to say was “he’s not a terrorist, you don’t have to smuggle him in, he’s a legal US resident, and a husband and father to US citizens, and we’ll happily take him back, please return him.”
Of course Trump doesn’t care. Laws do not matter to him. He just wants all the Latinos gone because he’s a pathetic racist…
…but the rationale they’re applying to Abrego Garcia’s case, and their willful flaunting of SCOTUS’s order means that they can literally do this to any of us…
Snatch us off the street, ship us to El Salvador within 3 days with no due process and then claim “whoops, nothing we can do El Salvador has them now,” while giving Bukele the ol’ wink, wink, nudge, nudge to never capitulate on returning an improperly, illegally or accidentally deported individually…
…doesn’t matter if you’re a citizen…without due process, you have no ability to prove your innocence of whatever the admin is claiming you did or even who they’re claiming you are (i.e. citizen vs. undocumented; gangbanger vs. upstanding community member, etc.).
Every time I think America can’t reach a new low, we dig a little deeper and find it. Truly a miserable, depressing state of affairs. We’re moving ever closer to Gilead by the day. But Gilead was run by competent, tho disgustingly evil men. The second Trump administration is more like Idiocracy meets the Handmaid’s Tale…can’t wait til we all have to start watering our plants with Brawndo.
In any event time to start considering exit plans if shit keeps going this way.
@NickG2210 I get that, I’d be pissed if Florida lost in the Sweet 16, but them getting this far is sufficient for me
I’d like to see Sampson win, but part of me doesn’t want to root for any former AAC teams after how they treated us on the way out. Maybe it’s time to get over that though
11 years ago inside of Gampel, I told myself that no matter how the game ends, that Florida game would be the best I’ve ever been to. Then Shabazz happened
Today, regardless of the result, was one of the best games and efforts I’ve ever seen from UConn. Fittingly against Florida
I’ve seen multiple people say the West region is stacked, but I actually think we got the easiest region.
All things considered, I’m fine with where we were placed
