@dmcczy @Coach_ERees @FixingEducation HS teachers get 1/8 prep. In a semester with prep you teach 3/4. In the semester without prep you teach 4/4. If you want 3/4 in both semesters you have to reduce to .86FTE. Yes, elementary prep is insufficient, but structurally so is secondary.

Yes! Actually teach them to decode language. Exposure to the written word is not enough to learn to read. A dependence on sight words sets students up for challenges as the texts get more difficult. Add in a learning disability like dyslexia you are setting kids up for failure.
