As in your family the skills have passed down the female line and my mother and I made/ make many of our own clothes while my daughter teaches fashion in all its aspects in New York.

@gilliandarley Good you found that out. Though my grandfather was the son of two Irish immigrants to the UK (we know why they left) he was born in London so one generation too late for a passport - but with perseverance Irish records are no longer as lost as previously.
