"I planted you like a rose among the rubble," Imad Hoteit says of his wife, who dissolved completely in an Israeli occupation airstrike. Imad stands over what remains of his home in Al-Douair, in the Nabatiyeh district of southern Lebanon, more than a month after an Israeli air strike levelled it on Sunday, 13 June at around 11:30 in the morning. His wife, Susan, and their daughter were inside when a missile hit, its heat so intense, he says, that it left almost nothing behind. Their daughter was thrown into a nearby olive tree and pulled out alive with fractures, burns and deep wounds, and has since been discharged from hospital. Susan has never been found.

For over a month, Lebanese civil defence teams and a bulldozer have sifted the debris for any trace of her so the family can bury her and have a grave to visit, while the mukhtar of Al-Douair, Saleh Qanso, appealed to the country's leaders to help recover her, hoping she might still be alive. Al-Douair sits among the towns of the south pounded by the Israeli occupation army in a campaign that has killed thousands and emptied much of the region of its people. "I planted you like a rose among the rubble," Imad says of his wife, vowing to search until he finds her, "we are all a sacrifice for the south."
