More and more my response to everything is becoming “exposure therapy.” You just have to do it. Sure, it can be uncomfortable and scary. But you (most likely) won’t die.
I don’t know that explain to some of you that you have to be active participants in your own lives. You have to do things, even if those things are uncomfortable, you don’t like them, they’re hard, difficult, or it takes multiple attempts. It’s your life, you gotta live it.
@DoctorPerin Most people making the claims that mental health professionals don’t understand autism don’t actually have autism themselves, so there’s that.
@probablyautist There are very effective treatment options for people misdiagnosed as autistic, and many of them aren’t getting it because they think they have autism. Many of them also take resources that would be better allocated to people who have autism.
I can’t say enough how insane it is that no one knows how to sit in discomfort anymore. No one problem solves, no one does things that are hard or scary because lord forbid they experience a moment of displeasure.
i’m tired of the learned helplessness in general!
no one can do anything anymore. you can’t cook, can’t read, can’t go out, can’t make friends… stop making excuses and start trying!
“but capitalism!” ok sure but fight back. reclaim even the tiniest portion of your life, my god!
