George Washington Carver (c. 1864-1943) was an American scientist and inventor. Born to enslaved parents in Missouri, he devoted himself to education and research and became a prominent botanist.
Carver was a champion of agricultural education and ran the Agriculture department at Tuskegee Institute beginning in 1894. He developed hundreds of products using peanut, sweet potatoes and soybeans, changing the lives of many poor farmers.
