I highly doubt he wouldn't try to escape, even if his assistant is. . less than competent enough to help him. . and the Scriveners can only do so much to try and catch him.

And? Many parts of the Code are still valid! I follow it and I’m not even from that village.

Now, think of this possibility. If he gets caught doing the same stuff here? He’d be locked away for the rest of his life, no questions asked. And we’d be able to tell our stories too.

I went against my village's Rider code just by leaving without permission.

But I wouldn't have considered going that far a possible option if he didn't do something to warrant it. It's still a last resort if anything, though. It's still a person's life we're talking about.
