Need your vote — what should I build next for Light Painter Add-on?
1️⃣ Smart Layers — non-destructive editing (Photoshop-style). Come back anytime to tweak the gradient, animate the gradient itself (noise, color, etc.) — not just transform/opacity.
2️⃣ New Line & Shape tools — polyline and other shapes, using SDF for true falloff over the shape.
3️⃣ Feather for Selection — adds falloff to the selection itself when you fill or paint over it.
4️⃣ Gobos & IES library — ready-to-use built-in library of gobos and IES profiles.

🔥 v1.1.0 is out — and I basically rebuilt the gradient system from scratch.
Before: gradients had only 2 stops, and the workflow was kinda like: draw → undo → tweak → repeat.
Now: everything's live before you apply. Move stops, add/remove them, change colors, tweak interpolation — all updates in real time.
What's new:
* Multi-stop gradients, full ColorRamp-style editing in the viewport.
* Oval radials + focal shift, no more perfect circles.
* Mesh gradient — place points anywhere and blend between them.
* Noise on every gradient, 7 types with proper controls.
* Randomize button (colors / noise / layout / all)

🚀 LightPainter 1.0.9 is out!
What's new:
* Reworked brush falloff logic — behavior across the Hardness range now feels much more distinct, especially along stroke edges, and closely matches Photoshop.
* "Fill Color" now respects active selection — it'll fill only inside the selection. Previously the selection was ignored for this option.

Hey everyone! 👋 Working on a tutorial video for LightPainter — what's been the most confusing part for you so far? Drop it in the comments and I'll make sure to cover it!
It seems some people have run into the same issue. I suspect it may be a conflict with another add-on, since using Light Painter on a clean Blender installation seems to solve the problem. You could also try installing a separate clean version of Blender, so it won’t be affected by your current settings or other add-ons, and then test Light Painter there to see if the issue still happens.
@avila_mov I’m currently working on a full tutorial that will show every aspect of addon 🙂 In the meantime, it’s also worth checking the documentation https://t.co/SiHGeQAE0Q — there’s a setup guide that explains how to get started and prepare the scene correctly.
After 4 months of hard work, my Blender add-on is finally out of beta! Paint light directly in the viewport like you paint in Photoshop. No nodes, no wiring, no hassle. #blender#b3d
@Punpun3D@fukupoly yes! just fill your layer with white color to lit the area, then erase or paint dark color where you want the shadows — and it'll create exactly that effect!
@robotic_cowboy_@SpenserFX yes! The layer system supports Blender animation, you can keyframe any parameter of layer, there's also a section about it on the Superhive page. I'm also thinking of adding noise-driven animation to the roadmap as a new feature! 😊
@SpenserFX Working on tutorial video, planning to release it within the next week Is there anything specific you'd like me to cover or focus on in the video?
