By placing Nigeriaโs Yoruba thought in dialogue with the famed western philosophers like Socrates, she challenged the assumption that African philosophy was merely folklore https://t.co/APCutLpICZ
if you are a creative person you deserve more than just a lover who appreciates your art. you deserve a whole life that feeds it. spaces that inspire you, people who push your thinking, and a daily existence that feels purposeful.
Pls take two minutes to listen to her entire response not just the one sentence highlighted in the caption. She lays it out PERFECTLY.
"I'll first say a big shout out to Mike and Delroy, like let's continue to honor them for how they handled that in real time, the grace and the dignity that they exercised, and the whole home team, everybody that was out there, like really carried themselves well. I think the events this weekend exposed a couple things - Institutionally, we still don't understand what inclusion means."
"Just because you invite someone into a space, but you don't provide the necessary resources to keep them and everyone else in that room safe by them being there, that's not inclusivity. That's exploitation."
"That man's disability got exploited that night, and it led to multiple offenses. That's the BAFTA's fault. And then the BBC, to air what they aired is careless."
"And not like some haphazard accident, no, like a real lack of care was exercised for those two Black men. And we know the BBC knows how to take care of what they care about, right, because they censored a bunch of other... they went so far as to make sure certain things weren't topics of conversation."
"They censored Akinola's speech, the director of My Father's Shadow, which is an amazing film, by the way. So you censored one Black man, you failed to protect two others, and our production designer, Hannah, you do not care for our dignity, our humanity."
"You want to celebrate our art, but you won't protect, and that's why we celebrate sinners. That's why we celebrate Ryan. That's why we show up to the NAACP, because those are spaces where we felt safe, where we feel safe."
- Jayme Lawson
I am so proud of Jayme. She didn't hesitate to call out BBC and BAFTA for the harm caused to Michael, Delroy, and John and intentionally setting him up to exploit his Corprolalia showing they don't care about and understand true inclusivity and creating safe spaces for people.
You're allowed to do creative stuff even if you don't think you're good at them. Do it because it moves something stuck inside you. Because creativity isnโt about being impressive, itโs about being expressive. Create badly. Create awkwardly. Thatโs not failure, thatโs freedom.
This one goes out to all the lovers...A gentle reminder that Valentine's Day is 3 weeks away... ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Hit me up, let's make some future memories, hehe! ๐ฅฐ๐๐ธ
Cheat sheet for whatโs happening in Kenya
1. Kenya is owning billions
2. Kenya decides to raise taxes to cover debt
3. Protesters who are taxpayers say No. The protesters tell their government to โcut spending instead of raising taxes.โ
4. Government and taxpayers disagree
5. Taxpayers protest
6. Their government kills them for protesting
I justโฆ Imagine if they just let us protest in peace. Or better yet, if they actually listened to the will of the people. Now thereโs bodies in the street and they donโt expect a reaction? They donโt think people will burn it all down? #RejectFinanceBill2024
To everyone protesting in Kenya, please stay safe. Your courage is inspiring us all globally. I am with you in seeking a better situation for Africans in Africa. #RejectFinanceBill2024 ๐ฐ๐ช
@ZacKaizen@TheEcho13 I mean...yeah, it's easier to understand something that's got centuries of study to reflect upon...versus maybe attempting to kick-start the same level of rigourous study into bodies other than men's ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ
2,187 Kenyan women accused British soldiers of rape. The British investigated their own military & concluded that โthere was no reliable evidence to support any single allegation.โ
They didnโt DNA test 69 mixed-race kids. Then Kenya lost the case files https://t.co/jiutnzWZZN
