Light Protocol

The rent-free account standard for Solana. SDKs for scaling Payments, Privacy and more.

[Light Protocol @LightProtocol]

We’re joining @helius to build the most used privacy protocol in crypto.

Helius is the leading infrastructure company on Solana, and having worked together closely in the past 2 years, we know them to be an elite team with the distribution power to make privacy go mainstream.

To our existing users: we will keep running and maintaining the ZK Compression protocol and core SDKs.

Big Solana news:

The Light Protocol team is joining Helius to help build Solana's most complete ZK privacy layer.

Private payments, markets, and finance -- at Solana scale.

Fully composable, fully onchain, fully open-source.

Introducing the Light Token SDK for Payments

- reduces Solana ATA fees to $0.001

- works with all SPL, including USDC, PYUSD, USDG

- new drop-in API, upgrading from spl-token takes ~5 minutes

Live on Mainnet today, use with all leading RPC providers.

Enjoy

To use the SDK, just swap a few function calls.

Methods are a superset of SPL-token, returning the same Account types.

[VeryAI @VeryAI]

Human verification needs to scale to billions of users. That’s why we’re partnering with @LightProtocol.

Using ZK Compression, VeryAI records verification events on @solana with compressed accounts that are ~5,000× cheaper than standard accounts.

The result: verifiable onchain proofs without exposing user data.

Proof of Reality for the new internet.

- same performance on hot paths
- same ux
- integration takes minutes
- rent free

rent on solana is solved. more to come

Same Solana account

Except the right one is rent-free

proud of the engineering work behind the new rent free token program

it’s like SPL token, but you don’t have to pay rent exemption to allocate accounts.

the token program pays it for you!

how?

the token program separates hot and cold paths under the hood

Say you have a market USDC-BONK

the market is being traded, it’s a highly CU optimized onchain account. Just like SPL and p-token. That’s the hot path.

when the market is inactive, it slowly gets colder, and eventually gets compressed. the state is preserved rent-free using zkcompression. that’s the cold path.

all this is done under the hood! programs interact with hot path only.

if a txn uses a cold account, it gets auto loaded into hot state in-flight.

and importantly — the unified tokenInterface API lets traders, programs, and clients add support fast.
Like adding a third token program to SPL and token22.

hot/cold usage patterns are already what what happens across markets and token APIs in Solana DeFi. the Light token program now applies this to the account storage side to allow sustainable removal of the rent exemption cost.

it’s the first-order correct design for a token program for DeFi and payments that both IBRL‘s **and** solves state growth for @solana.

tldr: rent free defi, launchpads and AMMs are possible on Solana now!

Stop paying rent

We teamed up with @LightProtocol to bring a new way to interact with compressed accounts like normal Solana accounts

BREAKING: @LightProtocol announces Light Token, a new token standard on Solana that's 200x cheaper than SPL and fully DeFi-compatible ⚡️

[Light Protocol @LightProtocol]

Today, we're introducing the Light token program, a high-performance token standard for rent-free DeFi on @solana.

It reduces the cost of allocating onchain accounts by 200x while being more CU efficient than SPL-token on hot paths.

[Light Protocol @LightProtocol]

The program achieves this by sponsoring Solana‘s rent-exemption cost to allocate hot accounts and compressing inactive (cold) accounts.

Our interface SDKs make it easy to load cold accounts without trading off UX.

biggest product announcement in the history of @lightprotocol yet

next week

[swen @swen_sjn]

what if you had 200x lower rent on solana

without the UX and performance tradeoffs previously associated with compression

i’ll be at @solanaconf to present our latest work

see ya there!

[Jorrit @ananas_light]

Built a zk ID example with compressed accounts.

- private onchain id verification with Groth16 zk proofs
- compressed pdas to nullify id verification for an event
- no custom indexer required, Rpcs already index compressed accounts in state trees
