@Scholars_Stage I was more skeptical of the war effort and I am slightly more optimistic now but my prognosis is that Ukraine will not win back the land it lost post February 2022.
Focusing on the #worldcup26, I am glad the U.S. is off to a good start. I hope we make it to the quarter finals this year. That’ll be a great improvement over our typical performance.

Look, I’m not a supporter of illegal immigration and I do think we need to put a cap of migrants who come here. But having this revisionist history isn’t helpful to an already strong case for controls. People support reasonable restrictions, not a “deport 100 million” slogan.
People forget how much the Irish and Germans were despised in the mid-1800s. They weren’t settlers (though many Germans did make their homes in the Midwest) but immigrants. Many ethnic Europeans didn’t assimilate to the U.S. for generations.
Jeremy Carl claims there was no significant non-English immigration to the Americas before the 1840s. Franklin thought Pennsylvania might turn into a German-speaking colony. The Constitution was quickly translated into German in multiple states.
