Beanie Babies made internet history, without even meaning to. https://t.co/E6rZedfQQp accidentally gave companies a reason to create websites: to sell things.

I know I only post here like twice a year but the @Netflix Tyson match is seriously giving New Years Eve Beanie Babies announcement vibes - whoever is admining the tech, I’m feeling your pain
This is how big universities like @UWMadison treat tomorrow’s black disabled leaders … 'It felt like a punch in the gut': UW unenrolls disabled student from Accelerated Learning Program https://t.co/TwCXhzaG4Y via @WKOW @DrSamiSchalk @Imani_Barbarin@yup_that_erin

@DrSamiSchalk So much community stopping by to relay their support. Thank you for supporting Kitty and in her words, "making her feel like an actual human." The ALP program is still running another 2 weeks and we are coming back every day.
@PJAxel17@UWMadison UW is barring Kitty's friends in the program from speaking to her at lunch or sitting down with her, even though the parents have called and told ALP staff their child has permission to speak with Kitty. That makes her best friend being in the program a complete heartbreak.
@_queefqueen_420 This is exactly what I am saying ... my demand is that either McBurney opens their doors to high schoolers and their families, or the programs get shut down because they are discriminating against people with disabilities.
@yup_that_erin@tmzinnen @DrSamiSchalk This is exactly what I’m trying to figure out, why is there a disconnection. Is it funding, or is there ableism existing somewhere in the UW organization that is disallowing people with disabilities to access their services? Clearly, this access needs to be mandated by the state.
@tmzinnen@yup_that_erin @DrSamiSchalk Yes, this is exactly the issue. In our situation, I don’t believe that the Program Director had any clue how to handle disability needs. She thought she had it all under control … until she didn’t.
@scottgordonwi @DrSamiSchalk @robchappell365@madison_365 I agree … our experience was beyond horrifying, hurtful and devastating. My child was coming into this with no faith in educational institutions, and I worked on convincing her that UW will be different. And then this happened. Beyond devastating.
My child has a disability and sometimes advocating for her needs is like banging your head against a brick wall. I’m grateful that an investigative reporter unraveled the issues and wrote a piece about it. The University of Wisconsin Madison needs to be held accountable.
A 14-year-old student was excluded from a University of Wisconsin precollege program because the university wasn't able to accommodate that student's disability. Today, we hear from the student and their mom. https://t.co/uypdjsJG56
@jonnathan500 @madison_365 I’m focusing on replacing the experience that UW ripped away from my child and mending her heart from all the disappointment and also raising awareness of challenges during Disability Pride Month, then I will explore if what occurred violated my child’s rights.
@tmzinnen@yup_that_erin @DrSamiSchalk Yes, the McBurney Center needs to be open and accessible to people who request their assistance for all related needs.
@yup_that_erin@JessicaGilkison @DrSamiSchalk I love what @DrSamiSchalk said on the 365 podcast about how our discomfort trumps the experience of the person who lives with their disability. If Kitty says she can go to the bathroom at night on her own, why is the system set up to enable powers of authority to not believe her?
@yup_that_erin@tmzinnen @DrSamiSchalk Yes, through this program, LP would’ve had to reach out and request assistance from McBurney, because we cannot request it ourselves. That is one point of this massive disconnect.
