@davidfowl@Dave_DotNet unfortunately not all businesses can afford perpetual development, they invest in software like its plant and machinery. There are 1000’s of businesses that just won’t evolve to fit an enterprise mentality. its just not financially viable.
some customers don’t have full time development teams, an app gets built and deployed by a contractor that moves on when the job is done. the code is unmaintained. A 3rd party support group just roll sys updates so the underlying platforms change up but the app. doesn’t. at some point the divergence is too great.
npu and tensor cores handle different work loads , my understanding is npu is super fast at sample style work ie reducing sensory input to true inputs and uses int types where as the gpu/tensor is about inference/decission making using floating point types (fp4 etc) both are simd but. solve different challenges with different cost/bens .
ive been a home deb/ubuntu user for years, but by chance i try’d fedora 43 at work on hyper-v. i was more than impressed. dnf5 is a rock solid package tool. in place upgrade to v44 just worked. in 10 days i’ve flipped from daily .net dev on win11 to vs /ssh on fedora44 as i switch to containers… im blown away.
@mrmikeMTL 1998. the dot com boom. everything after that moment seams to have taken us towards an world were the only value is fleeting. before that good things took time and lasted.
ok world I’m working on projects to port lots of file, access and sqlserver dbs. normally to .net core/sql server on azure. but not being able to run sql server on windows-arm , bit im also pivoting to running .net core on osx/linux and it is forcing me to consider dropping sql server in favor of an os db like postgres.
Whats your real world experience.
none of these systems use anything more advanced than joins and simple stored procedures /functions. businesses logic is in the app service layer. db are under 10gb. some store file blob data.
@Her_Nonymous_D yes its a thing. but ‘smell’ is misleading. its more of a pheromone sensitivity. There’s no smell as such. just a oh your ‘on’ in my head. thus be extra kind and gentle. [ i’m a husband and we have 3 teen girls] fyi i can usually sense it 2-3 days in advance of the emo meltdown.
@ayesha_fatiima Its because window is consistent. win32 created a highly stabe ecosystem of apps, in turn that allowed office products to become ingrained… the inertia to overcome the ‘common office’ is real.
@James_M_South i saw your demo, i was at a level it just didn’t need feedback. ergo no feedback was the best feedback. moved on to the next bug and hit ❤️. sry been a dev too long , forgot to be human.
