On behalf of my fellow farmers, I appeal that the Government opens up the window for duty free importation of yellow maize for processing animal feeds as early as tomorrow. Manufacturers rely on white maize to make feeds and the price of the grain has now hit Ksh4K a bag with competition between humans and animals set to worsen the situation. I am buying a 50kg bag of layers marsh (Unga Ltd) at Ksh3,370 from 3,270 a month ago, this is because I get my supplies directly from the factory. Farmers buying from Agrovets are paying Ksh3,600. The Egg market is currently saturated but in the next two months the country will witness unprecedented prices for the commodity as most producers are going to sell off their stocks as ex-layers on the back of the rising cost of feeds. Remember, Kenya also relies on neighbouring countries for the supply of cotton seed cake and sunflower cake, which are key supplements in feed making, these have to be zerorated. The State should intervene now to tame runaway inflation. @WilliamsRuto @Mutahi__Kagwe @CerealMillers@AAkefema @kilimoKE @KindikiKithure
