I think some of you watch this show for the sole purpose of being vile to the housemates.
It’s okay to say you don’t like a housemate. But making being hateful towards a particular housemate your entire viewing experience is it not exhausting?
Then every year, you complain that Big Brother Naija housemates have become less entertaining, less authentic and too calculated. But look at what happens to the ones who actually dare to come on this show and be themselves.
You reward them with hate. You demonise them for being imperfect. You dissect every word, every reaction and every relationship. You insult them, drag their families and make them afraid to live their reality because they know they’ll be judged, insulted and trolled for it.
How do you expect people to be authentic in an environment where authenticity is constantly met with hate?
These are human beings. They are not perfect, they will get things wrong, they will annoy you, they will make questionable decisions and sometimes they will deserve criticism. But they are still human beings.
You don’t have to like every housemate. Just remember that they are human beings like you, and maybe leave a little room for them to be imperfect without turning them into monsters.
The way people reacted to Goddessa… is the exact reason people fear being themselves.
We should not reward misunderstanding.
