Over the coming weeks, we’re reminding all physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs) that registration will open on 16 December 2024.

PAs and AAs on the voluntary registers will be invited to apply for registration by the end of January 2025.

We're encouraging PAs and AAs not on the voluntary registers to apply as soon as they can from 16 December 2024.

Today, we’ve written to all UK doctors to let them know that our public consultation on the rules, standards and guidance needed to regulate PAs and AAs is now open.

We’ve highlighted that the consultation also asks for views on draft principles to inform the content of fitness to practise decision making guidance that will apply to all registrants – doctors, PAs and AAs – from the end of this year. We’ve included this to bring forward improvements for doctors now, where we’re able to do so, within the legislation that currently governs our work.

We're also using a range of ways to seek views from patients & the public during our consultation, including through focus groups, raising awareness in the media and working with organisations who support patients.
