The human heart is not filled by accumulating experiences, possibilities, or temporary guarantees; it is filled when it discovers a call, when it understands that life reaches fullness only if it is given. Following Christ does not impoverish existence, but expands it. #ApostolicJourney
There are people who wake up early just to sit on their porch with coffee and listen to birds.
And that feels like a much better use of a life than rushing through every second of it.
My sister just retired on the gulf in Florida, I visited her in January and it was my first time there. It really opened my eyes to how beautiful that state is, so underrated.
The cultural consciousness would improve if we stopped saying "pregnant" and went back to saying "with child". We need to retrain the collective subconscious through discourse that it is actually a child, your child, not a clinical condition.
@Andrewnsnyder That is a good answer. My Catholic Dad told me later in life that he regretted telling me "No, animals don't go to heaven." when I asked if my cat was going to heaven after she died. The look on my face broke his heart. My poor Dad, it bothered him far longer than me.
@Empty_America My house in San Jose was adobe brick, the bricks cooled down overnight, big help. No cooling in Santa Fe either, a good monsoon season helped a lot. I definitely needed the swamp cooler in ABQ, if it was a humid day it was uncomfortable. The higher the desert the better.
Sonoran Harris Hawks, Westchester County, NY, 1988. I flew βPeanut,β the little male on my shoulder, for 10 years before he was electrocuted on a power line. I hunted with the hen, βKuucheen,β for 24 years. She laid eggs and produced chicks every summer, and today falconers all over the East Coast are still hunting with her progeny. #GetOutside #LiveRealLife

Rev. Jean-Baptiste Commins was in the parking lot of St. Joseph Shrine in Detroit when he heard screeching tires and a loud crash.
A man had crashed a stolen vehicle outside the church and tried to run.
Fr. Commins chased him down, tackled him, and held him until police arrived.

"One of the first things a family tries to teach its children is the difference between good and evil, right and wrong. One of the first things our schools do is destroy that distinction."

Ben Sasse has always been honest, but facing a terminal diagnosis he has been unplugged. Last night, in exactly 13 seconds, he explained the real reason compulsory education ever started in America.
Catholics, consider this when making choices about education for your children.
@goinggodward They are adorable. You can see them within the city limits of Albuquerque, New Mexico, close to the foothills of the Sandias. They have an exhibit at the Rio Grande zoo too.
