@ProfRachelGaN But I don’t believe in the 80 hr work week. I’m at a masters large institution and if I push out 1-2 papers per year, I’m doing quite well. The flexible schedule is what keeps me in academia and at my current institution.
@ProfRachelGaN For better or worse, I don’t really divide my week up like that. The weekends give me unbroken time to write, so I do a lot of my chores/exercise in the morning before I need to be on campus. I usually spend time with my BF or visit my parents in the evening. No kids.
I think those of us who taught face to face for the last year at the request of university admin should get priority parking now that campus is back to “normal”. 🤔
@JNRutherford 🙌 $105K here. And in 10 years, I’ve mostly just paid the interest. My expertise mostly doesn’t lend itself well to industry but I was chained to academia for 10 years regardless.
@JNRutherford It took me 7.5 years to finish, I was super burned out, and I took out loans for my living expenses every year. I’m lucky they are all governmental — October is my 10 years for PSLF.
With increased teaching for COVID, increased service post-tenure, and indefinite COVID pause on my fieldwork …. I just did my first bit of research work in 18 months. I think it felt good?
