My colleague is in a dilemma, and I honestly don't know if I gave her the right advice.
She has been dating her boyfriend for over a year, and I know the guy is crazy about her. Unfortunately, his mum doesn't want her anywhere near her son.
He keeps assuring her that his mum will eventually come around, especially after they get married, because she won't have any choice but to accept her.
She's asking me whether she should go ahead and marry him, prepared to deal with whatever challenges his mum might bring, or walk away from the relationship.
I told her she's too young to start her married life that way. If his mum doesn't like her now, there's no guarantee things will get better after marriage. In fact, she might frustrate her so much.
I advised her to walk away now before it's too late rather than enter a marriage where she'll constantly have to fight for acceptance.
