In this photoessay, Reem Rafei sorts through old photographs during a season of grief, finding an image that returns her to the sea—and to herself.

The inaugural edition of Maajouka: Tripoli Art Zine (October, 2025) by Marsah aims to provide Tripoli artists in the residency program and established artists from the city a platform to share critical and creative labor across genres. It features visual narratives, comics, photography, and literature while documenting an emerging artistic collective from Tripoli.

This publication was curated and led by Marsah Director, Nadine Alidib, and produced and edited in collaboration with Rusted Radishes: Beirut Literary and Art Journal.

The project was made possible with the generous support of the Norwegian Embassy in Lebanon and the British Council in Lebanon.

For those Lebanese looking for something like a new Foaud Chehab — the army commander who built Lebanese institutions and oversaw a period of stability in the 50s/60s— Joseph Aoun’s speech will be a cause for hope.

He focused on strengthening oversight & accountability and the rule of law, stopping smuggling and drug trafficking and money laundering, and providing basic services and security.

Specific proposals on improving the judiciary (which has failed to hold anyone accountable despite financial collapse and Beirut port blast).

“We are in a crisis of governance that requires a shift in political and economic performance.”

His speech began by placing Lebanon within its mythology — a small state somehow surviving in a region on fire by the will and creativity of its people — noting he is the first president in Lebanon’s second centennial.
