@ChimeWhistle@burgesshill I've heard rumors of a railway museum in Scandinavia planning to scrap a (recently working) large steam loco because required boiler work was too expensive and there was no space for storage, thankfully it may have got a reprieve from another line.
Great day yesterday on the @Vintage_Trains 'Cathedrals Express' to Newcastle. Hauled by 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe...' well away from the usual stomping grounds of a GWR Castle!
Did Premier Dining on this one, food/service were excellent and staff/volunteers lovely as always.
Yet again, the 'think of the children' brigade are opening up all of us to state surveillance, destroying online anonymity and risking our most personal of data being leaked to criminals.
Plus completely ignoring how some young people actually benefit from online communities!
๐จ BREAKING: Keir Starmer threatens mandatory ID checks to use mobile phones
"Protecting children online is vital, but these are outrageous plans that will fail to address the underlying causes of online harm. This will only result in population-wide ID checks for all of us to use our phones, tablets and laptops.
"Put simply, the Labour Government is threatening ID checks for the internet. No one in a democracy should need to show their passport just to get online.
"These plans would replace efforts for meaningful tech and parental responsibility with performative, authoritarian government control that children can easily circumvent by accessing adult-registered devices. However, for the UK's 50 million adults using the internet, this backdoor digital ID requirement would invoke the death of anonymity and internet privacy.
"The Government's plan very likely means that unless you submit to intrusive identity checks when setting up your phone or computer, there will be a chokehold on your software and internet access leaving you with a child-locked device. Planned restrictions on messaging, streaming and browsing raise the potential of spyware in our pockets that will be exploited for other purposes before long.
"The Government mandating that all phones in Britain require ID and surveillance software is a crossing of the Rubicon that would make the UK one of the most authoritarian internet regimes in the world. This extreme technological censorship requires rigorous public and parliamentary scrutiny that is currently totally missing" - Silkie Carlo | @silkiecarlo

@railnigel Statfold really is a fantastic place. The collection is amazing and every time I visit, they seem to have built something new.
They've also fully embraced that it needs to attract families, with the soft play, roller disco etc in addition to the railway stuff!
@whedonesque At the end of The Gift, when Giles has to kill Ben to ensure Glory never comes back... because he knows that Buffy can't.
It gives you a real insight into who he really is.
@DriverPotter I share the same feelings. I was at a concert he was also attending with his family. The friends I was with (also big Buffy fans) met him in the bar at the interval and he was kind enough to spend time chatting with them. Sadly I missed out as I was sat minding our bags :-(
@GarethDennis A better, third, option is charters run by @Vintage_Trains
Run by a charitable trust, by people who actually care about heritage, and who quietly got on with the work of fitting CDL when required.
Also very reasonable pricing.
@chilternrailway FYI, Coach 58469. Internal door to next carriage at the London end not opening properly. Passengers having to force it to get through.
Just left Leamington on 1H72
A steam museum in West Sussex is going to showcase working steam engines from a Banbury company that was based on Lower Cherwell Street.

@GarethDennis Just a shame that companies like Snรคlltรฅget impose airline style baggage restrictions, completely negating one of the key benefits of going to Scandinavia by rail.
@Clinnick1@EastMidRailway@LumoTravel In a sane joined up world, they'd be straight into Derby with the next Class XC 220s for refurb, fitted with the new interior, and outshopped as 5 car!
Suspect in reality there's too much complexity around owmership, compatibility and who would pay!
Also my trip to Cheltenham was conveniently timed to watch D1015 'Western Champion' arriving at Banbury with the @Vintage_Trains Golden Hind railtour to Plymouth.
Great day out at the @GWSR today, even with the heat and timetable delays. A very intensive timetable with a great set of visiting locos!
Enjoyed the @RAFBBMF Spitfire flypast as well... possibly my only chance to see one this year with RIAT cancelled.
