They exists.. Usually in a care facility. Many were placed in institutions or care facilities decades ago, often hidden from public view. Diagnostic categories were different in the 1950s–1970s, so many older adults were mislabeled (e.g., “mentally retarded,” “childhood schizophrenia”) instead of “autistic.” Life expectancy for people with profound autism was much lower historically, partly due to neglect, lack of healthcare, and institutional abuse. So fewer made it to “70 and visible in society.”
