Can we talk about the 2008 Olympics when France’s best swimmer, Alain Bernard, said “we are going to smash the Americans [in the relay], that’s what we came here for” and then this happened?
Late to the party but here’s the recap:
-A coach contacted a player who announced he was entering the transfer portal. Coach thought he was officially in the portal, turned out he wasn’t, and he immediately ceased communication once he was informed.
-Hartline gave Chris Henry Jr a cool edit photo after he committed to Ohio State. Giving edits to recruits before their Junior season is illegal, and CHJ was still a sophomore at the time.
-A recruit took a picture with 2 boosters, which is illegal.
***Ohio State self-reported the violations, and the NCAA already deemed the violations all as Level III (minor violations/lowest level.)***
Punishments have already been imposed/self imposed, which included a week of ceased recruiting operations, loss of official visits, 2 lost recruiting days, and extra training for staff and boosters.
At the end of the day Twitter trolls will latch onto this like it’s real smoke, but in all reality, this is what a healthy compliance department looks like IMO. Having the integrity to report what many would consider violations of arbitrary rules should bring confidence that Ohio State is committed to following the laws of the sport for as long as they are there, and for as long as the NCAA is the governing body of CFB.
This is how you avoid a “cheeseburger gate”…
"When you have good people and you care about people then it's hard"
Gene Smith paused for nearly 15 seconds, then with tears in his eyes explained how hard it was to fire Chris Holtmann.
A powerful moment about how winning is important, but finding good people is key:
Ohio State has brought back the plain gray shirts for workouts 👀
This was an Urban Meyer-era tradition that requires players “earn” the right to wear the Buckeyes logo.
This team is HUNGRY.
