Do community voices reach the institutions making decisions about Uganda’s nuclear future?
This week, WePlanet Uganda representatives, @MweineP and @LNajjuka, met with @MEMD_Uganda to present findings from The Missing Reactor, our report on stakeholder engagement, bringing forward community concerns about land compensation, participation, health and safety, and access to information.
Ministry officials welcomed the report and shared updates on ongoing efforts around land valuation, compensation processes and community engagement.
Importantly, the meeting opened opportunities for continued dialogue, including potential participation in future community engagement activities in Buyende, where Uganda is advancing its proposed nuclear energy development.
Our position remains: successful nuclear energy development requires more than technical readiness; it requires meaningful public engagement, transparency, responsiveness to community concerns and, above all, public trust.

‼️A great injustice is being perpetrated against the world's poorest people. A form of neo-colonialism dressed up as climate action.
700,000 people die annually across sub-Saharan Africa due to indoor air pollution.
While the Global North expands fossil fuels for its citizens, it pressures development banks to block financing for LPG, a fossil fuel that could provide clean cooking for millions of the world’s poorest people who lack access to electricity.
The Global North is effectively asking Africa to #JustStopCooking.

When we’re believing for something, we go to God’s Word and stand on it in faith. In the same way, when we receive a prophetic word, we should write it down and keep it before us as we stand on it in faith. ✊
