This week we welcomed back Sarah the Signwriter to paint the ECJS crests on 189. The original transfers we have are around 125 years old and very fragile. They tend to disintegrate during application. Sarah has skilfully painted the crests using an original one for reference.
@gravelot142 The cost. Fox Transfers were approached and with all the design work we could have been looking at in the region of Β£4k before a single transfer was created. Itβs not like there are dozens of ECJS carriages needing transfers either.
Current projects in the Kirby Misperton workshop.
Gresley TTO 43654 - main contract project.
Gresley TK 23896 - LNERCA owned and subject of major fundraising appeal. We hope to restart work on this soon.
Thompson CL 88339 - LNERCA owned and currently having some electrical work.
The fantastic new is that we have recently passed the half way mark with over Β£40k already pledged for the restoration of 23896. Many thanks to the generous sponsors so far.
Please see our exciting sponsorship opportunity to kick start the restoration of Gresley Corridor Third 23896, built in 1935 by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company to LNER Diagram 115.

Dark blue going on the letters and white flashing. Fantastic work by Sarah the Signwriter. She is not on X unfortunately. #greatnorthernrailway#doncasterworks
We are delighted to have Sarah the Signwriter on site at Kirby Misperton doing the lettering on GNR saloon 3087. So far the gold leaf has been applied and the first shade of blue.#greatnorthernrailway
Interior details in ECJS 3rd class dining car of 1894. Lining being applied to maple upper panels and partition fanlight reinstated with original ECJS engraved glass. #eastcoastjointstock#victoriandiningcar#gnrdoncaster
@TeakSawdust@adipullenLNER@RailwayCorresp1 Photo from the Harris book. As built in LNER scumbled teak livery to match standard teak bodied carriages. The lining applied in the same position as if it had mouldings, but of course as all steel construction, the sides were flush.
Photos of the progress by volunteers on ECJS Dining Car 189 at Pickering. Internal varnishing now taking place in small saloon and glass and mirrors being fitted in correct locations. 189 built at GNR Doncaster works in 1894. #victoriandiningcar#doncasterworks
First gangway now in place on 189 since around 1927 when it was withdrawn from service. Some adjusting and final fixing to do. On the interior work progressing well and is now starting to look really special.
The blind covers have had gold leaf applied and now refitted.
