@RutgersAltRoute Q2. Stamp out verbal harassment early. Homophobic and sexist language are thrown out commonly by students in the hallways, but I never allow it to enter the classroom, and if it does, they have to spend time with me after school. #AltRtEd #standuptobullying

@RutgersAltRoute A6 - As stated in the video, it's important to "know your students." Discipline practices don't work the same for all students and this is especially true of students will disabilities. Teachers should be fair, but flexible. Find out what works for individuals. #AltRtEd #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A5 - I like that Mr. Weinberger refers to helping ADHD students as "channeling" or "redirecting" their energy. The fidget box seems likes a good idea—the seat cushion in particular. I had never seen that before. #AltRtEd #SpEd

I also give them opportunities to meet with me before and after school when there are less distractions. #AltRtEd #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A3 - In an ideal environment, students with ADHD and other disabilities should be given tools, technologies, and other resources that help offset hindrances. Even something as simple as a stress ball or a rubik's cube can help students focus. #AltRtEd #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A2 - Students with disabilities should not be reduced or defined by their disability. Like all students, they have particular strengths and talents and they should be reminded of those and encouraged to pursue them. #AltRtEd #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A1 - One of the biggest challenges that my colleagues and I face at our particular school is a lack of resources. We don't have much in way of additional learning materials, support staff, & resources, which makes creating an inclusive environment difficult. #AltRtEd #SpEd
