@kelkel156@SarmaPavithra@Jessica_Brough@edincarib Can I ask, who said we were profiting off of this?
Who do you think the historian is?
I don't think you have yiur facts straight and would be happy to talk to straighten this out
Would this be possible? Maybe you don't actually have all the info
@kelkel156@SarmaPavithra@Jessica_Brough@edincarib Hi Someone Else, we havent done any tours yet - what profiting are you talking about?
The historian who is doing the tour is not even a person you know.
I think people like yourself have jumpes the gun and reached conclusions without actually knowing the situation
@UnderdogHealth@HeatherParryUK@Jessica_Brough@edincarib No one here is trying to teach black history or anti-racism. Lets not get muddled up or play chinese whispers on Twitter
We are simply doing a tour that covers Scotlands involvement with the slave trade.
@SirGeoffPalmer thanks for sharing a post last night about a new tour in Edinburgh that takes a look at Scotland's/Edinburgh's role in the slave trade between the 17th-19th centuries.
Can I ask, do you think a tour guide who leads this tour must not be white? #Peaceloveonly
@kirtanaSekaran Im not the guide. Donno if you have followed this shambles of a chat thread but its a guy who is a qualified historian.
Yes, he is white (not his choice) and yes he is male (also not his choice).
He has a bigger social conscience than anyone else I know. U know him?
@kirtanaSekaran Why dont you actually try and understand who or what you are talking about?
Easy to type a tweet and call someone racist isnt it
You couldn't even pick me out of a lineup yet you think you know me
Crazy
@thatdamnqa@UnderdogHealth I think that is great and am 100% behind anyone who makes the effort to improve
To be clear, im not attacking anyone here. Just trying to understand why people think as they do
@Idesel@UnderdogHealth@HeatherParryUK@Jessica_Brough@edincarib One more reason, i think i have gathered, is that someone else is already doing a tour on this topic and has some form of ownership over said topic
These things seem to be the cause of the debate here
I would contend he has the authority to do the tour
@Idesel@UnderdogHealth@HeatherParryUK@Jessica_Brough@edincarib I think some people are not happy that an academic who did his Phd on the British Empire, and has displayed a life-long passion for Scottish History, is guiding a tour on Edinburgh and it's connections to slavery.
I believe the reasons given for this are his skin colour +gender
@Shafiqmog @rosieabeast @UnderdogHealth@HeatherParryUK@edincarib I hear you, although it seems on twitter there is only room for indignant shouting
I am (always) keen to learn about other people's opinions.
