“Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women. Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, such as variation in quality healthcare and underlying chronic conditions. Social determinants of health prevent many women from racial and ethnic minority groups from having fair opportunities for economic, physical, and emotional health.” #CDC

Don’t become numb.
What is happening across our world is not distant. It is human.
Lives are being lost. Communities are being disrupted. Families are being changed forever.
We must not lose our capacity to care.

Over 6 years ago, the House first passed my Enhanced Background Checks Act to close the Charleston Loophole that allowed a white supremacist to obtain the gun he used to murder nine worshipers at Emanuel AME Church on June 17, 2015.
I'll never stop fighting to pass this law.
9 Beloved. 10 years ago today, they were murdered in church in a vile, hateful, racist act. We remember and honor their lives. #Emanuel9#MotherEmanuel#Charleston
