The KU Field System is a research area with trails open to the public. Explore 1,800 acres on five miles of trails north of the Kansas River. Highlights are sweeping views of the valley below, rolling, forested hills and remnant native prairie. https://t.co/3VRbajVzwg
@FromPhDtoLife Where I studied, this was the norm. But my husband went to the University of Kansas geology program and they had a pay up front policy. But they’re a progressive program. I know of a student who had their parking tickets paid off so they could register for the next semester
Second manuscript is being accepted in Soil Biology and Biochemistry Journal in a month! Kudos to my former Ph.D. student @ShikhaSingh096 and co-authors @stephaniekivlin & Melanie Mayes. Theme is wet-dry cycles in soil and C cycling mechanisms. @Utsoil https://t.co/jkBfAKd29H
Got to visit the Saint Paul Campus Dairy last week with undergraduates in an honors class. We talked about nutrient cycling - from feed to #manure and then back to crops!
40% of CONUS (~40 states) is likely exporting nutrient pollution during winter rain & snowmelt
But we don’t know how much, where it’s going, & what the water quality impacts are
We can’t ignore changing winters

"When electricity demand surged, the city’s small fleet of electric school buses sprang to life, sending electricity stored in their massive batteries back into the grid to prevent brownouts and blackouts."
Fascinating read from @tdechant 🚌🚌

Folks who are in grad school or working in ecological science, what quantitative skills do you wish had been offered in undergrad? (e.g. coding, t-tests, regression, random forests, resampling analysis, etc.)
Congrats to the three @UnivOfKansas professors — Sharon Billings, Anil Misra + Eduardo Rosa-Molinar — who have been named @aaas fellows for their significant contributions to advancing science. Learn more about their work ➡️ https://t.co/cmps8GWJTH
Want to support a really great cause this season? How about the planet (and education)? We're partnering with @KU_EEB and @kuesp, with help from @KUEndowment, in an effort to raise $60K to support KU field ecology courses. Every gift makes a difference! https://t.co/GXzQ42XYrI

Delighted that @ryan_mclake's paper on terminal electron acceptors in anoxic reservoirs is finally out at @EcosystemsJ! We manipulated oxygen in diff lake layers and calculated electron budgets to track the dominant processes driving C mineralization https://t.co/E7Ui8asuDZ (1/2)
It's important to get soil samples to the lab in a timely manner. I took 30 cores, mixed them thoroughly, split into 3 bags. Dropped 1 the day of sampling, 1 after 1 week, 1 after 2 weeks of sitting in the pickup bed. Look how much N and pH change! P&K changed very little.
I'm excited to announce I'm hiring a post-doc! See the attached job ad for details, and contact me (DM or email in job ad) for further information. Highly competitive salary!
