This project was the last home built by legendary log builder B. Allan Mackie.
Located in Ontario, Mackie was in this 80’s when this project was completed - a testament to his lifelong love of building majestic log structures.

This is the crew from the Mormon Lake Resort workshop. We constructed a lakeside, roofed sitting area using a basic round notch with Ponderosa Pine harvested from the property.
The lessons learned were many. The memories, forever.

One of the original log building styles, piece-en-piece dates back centuries, & was very popular with builders at The Hudson’s Bay Company, who employed it frequently in their forts & storehouses due to their isolated locations and limited tools and manpower.

This is the Dudley Carter Carving Studio in Washington. A renown carver in the Haida tradition, Carter built this studio in a typical ancestral home style.
That bottom portion of the totem pole swings open to serve as the door!

This is the ‘Gatehouse’ entry to the Mackie School, BC. Several truss designs are used to support this roof assembly, described by its several parts; trusses, supporting purlins & rafters, & supporting nailers to which hand split cedar shakes are nailed.

This cabin is the Jackson House Historic Site, located inside Lewis and Clark State Park in Washington.
A simple but very practical structure, we were honored to be asked to lend a hand in the upkeep and restoration!

Pictured is a prime example of the remarkable durability a log structure can have when properly built and maintained. This cabin at #olmsteadstatepark has stood up incredibly well to the elements, even after 140 years!
