Israel is rejecting key elements of the U.S.-backed Gaza roadmap, arguing it fails to achieve the central objective of the war: the complete dismantling of Hamas.

Israel’s main objections:
• The framework “does not reflect Israel’s positions.”
• It requires Israel to begin withdrawing before Hamas is fully disarmed.
• Hamas would retain weapons inside Gaza during the transition.
• Gazans would still be permitted to possess licensed firearms.
• Israel insists on “genuine, verifiable, and irreversible demilitarization of Hamas.”
• “Demilitarization means Hamas physically surrendering its weapons. Anything short of full demilitarization will leave Hamas with the capability to threaten Israel again.”
• Israeli intelligence says Hamas has used the ceasefire to rearm, recruit thousands of additional terrorists, rebuild its military infrastructure, and prepare for further October 7-style massacres.

An Israeli official added: “Israel will not withdraw from the current line in the Gaza Strip, and will continue to eliminate any threats to our citizens and our soldiers.”

President Isaac Herzog welcomed diplomatic efforts but stressed one non-negotiable condition: “Hamas must be disarmed, and I hope Hamas will be disarmed fully.”

The disagreement underscores Israel’s position that any lasting agreement must ensure Hamas can never again launch another October 7-style attack.

Karin Vernikov and Sapir Bilmes were pure light in this world. They were joyful young women, full of grace and generosity, deeply loved by everyone who knew them, with big dreams and a profound love of life.

On October 7, they fled the music festival and reached Kibbutz Alumim. There, brutal Hamas terrorists ambushed them and another group of young people and murdered them in cold blood.

The terrorist Ibrahim Za’anin - the monster filmed chasing them and shooting at them - was eliminated by the IDF and the Shin Bet earlier in February.

His elimination did not bring justice to their families, nor could it lessen the unbearable pain of their brutal murder. Justice was not done. But there is some comfort in knowing that a monster like him no longer walks this earth.
