My gut tells me he skipped for other reasons. It would be extremely risky for “party elders” to step out and reprimand Xi. It probably has more to do with a very real economic crisis brewing in China

Interesting how Xi is tightening control over Chinese businesses. Deng Xiaoping began a process of liberalizing control over China’s economy while Xi is now seemingly reversing that trend.

The changes that China has made since 1978 have been momentous but I have always felt that those changes are physical rather than chemical in nature. As physical changes they can be reversed and changed back. This is what is happening in China now.
