“I don’t like being here,” said Chidirim Nwaubani in the British Museum’s Egyptian sculpture gallery. “These are reminders of the spoils of war, reminders of defeat, reminders of colonialism.” https://t.co/0MjAhZ3217

💰 Digital Restitution: NFTs as Activism 🌍
@LootyNFT is rewriting the history of stolen art. This project doesn't ask for permission: it scans looted African artifacts (like the Benin Bronzes) in museums 🏛️ and creates NFT replicas for the metaverse.
20% of the proceeds go into a fund for young African artists 🎨.
It’s #Decolonization in the digital age: a legal and technological leap to reclaim heritage and empower the next generation.

Many thanks to @mowaaofficial for a deeply inspiring two days in Benin. I was invited to speak on a panel about decolonizing histories through African-led practice and enjoyed sharing insights from the work we do at @republicjournal.
Truly exciting times.
