Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong is surging in Wisconsin’s Democratic primary for governor, but her radical policies are so far to the left that outgoing Democratic governor Tony Evers is campaigning with her primary opponent.
Hong’s progressive agenda and resurfaced social media posts are drawing scrutiny from both sides as she emerges as a leading contender.
Former Republican Governor Scott Walker says his party needs to take her seriously if she makes it through the primary, setting up what could become a closely watched general election fight. | @MikeTobinFox

BREAKING: Sen. Mitch McConnell is heading home after being discharged from rehab, but his return to the Senate doesn't appear imminent.
McConnell said in a statement: “On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.”
@ChadPergram reports it's considered doubtful McConnell returns to the Senate before the fall.
Sen. Bernie Sanders is declining to endorse fellow Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin's race for governor.
When asked on a recent podcast appearance whether he'd back Hong's campaign, Sanders replied, "I don't think so," saying she "seems very, very nice" but that he's "just not that familiar" with the race.
Sanders added that "we have not gotten involved in many governors' races."
The response quickly sparked backlash online, with critics arguing Sanders' reluctance to endorse Hong speaks volumes after he previously backed candidates facing significant political baggage throughout the country.
Hong, a Democratic Socialist of America member, has drawn scrutiny over far-left positions including calls to abolish the U.S. Senate and defund the police.
